About the Artist

I’m Wardah Halim, the brains and the hands (that do all the work) behind HennaTrendz. I hail from Pakistan, where I was basically born with henna on my hands (okay, not literally, but close). In 2005, I made the bold move to sunny San Diego, California, and the henna passion followed me here. Growing up, henna was more than just art; it was like the scent of nostalgia mixed with a deep cultural love.

I’ve been professionally doing henna for almost 20 years now (yep, you read that right, 20!). And guess what? My love for it hasn’t faded like a henna stain—it’s as strong as ever! I’m all about mixing it up, blending styles from Pakistan, India, the Gulf, North Africa, and beyond. If it’s got a pattern, I’m probably finding a way to fuse it into my designs.

When I’m not turning people’s hands into walking art, I’m a watercolor landscape enthusiast and an ink illustrator. I also indulge in sharing my passion for henna and painting through YouTube tutorials, on my YouTube channel.

When I'm not immersed in the world of art, I’m embracing the beautiful chaos of motherhood with my three young children. They are my constant source of inspiration and joy.

About the Art

Henna is a temporary form of body art that has been around for centuries. Contrary to popular belief, henna did not originate from India, but evidence of henna use has even been found on mummies in Egypt dating back to the pre-dynastic period of 3400 BCE.

The leaves of the henna plant (Lawsonia inermis) contain the dye molecule that stains the skin a reddish-brown color. The leaves are ground into a fine powder and mixed with water/lemon juice and essential oils to make the henna paste. This henna paste is then used to draw designs on the skin. When left on the skin for a few hours and then scraped off, natural henna leaves behind an orange stain on the skin that slowly darkens to a deep reddish brown over the next 2-3 days. A natural henna stain lasts for about 1-2 weeks.

Henna is typically associated with joy and celebrations and is used in many countries like Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Morocco, Middle East, Sudan, Somalia to adorn the skin for weddings, religious festivities, and other types of joyous occasions.

Testimonial

“Wardah's work is absolutely amazing! She is so wonderful to work with. She is very kind, she is punctual, incredibly professional, and works very efficiently. I got my bridal henna done 6 days before my wedding. By following her thorough instructions, along with the natural henna she makes herself, the design lasted and looked incredible on my wedding day! I would defintely recommend her to anyone who is looking to have beautiful, quality henna design done for any occasion. Her work speaks for itself. Thank you so much Wardah!”
